Privacy Policy

Personalang is built on a simple promise: the more Lucia knows about you, the better she helps — and that trust only works if we treat your information with care. This explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it.

Who we are

Personalang (“Personalang,” “we,” “us”) operates the website at personalang.com and the voice language-practice service offered through it. For privacy questions, contact us at support@personalang.com. This policy is provided by Personalang.

Information we collect

• Account information — your email address and password, handled by our authentication provider.
• Conversations & memories — transcripts of your sessions with Lucia, and the “memories” derived from them (your name, goals, preferences, and the things you tell her), so she can pick up where you left off.
• Voice audio for live sessions — your speech is processed during live sessions so it can be transcribed and Lucia can respond. Session recordings are stored only if you opt in.
• Learning settings — the languages you choose, your level, and similar preferences.
• Usage data — session counts, duration, timing, and service-consumption measurements used to calculate and apply your plan’s daily and monthly limits.
• Technical data — basic information your browser sends (such as IP address and device/browser type) needed to deliver and secure the service.

How we use your information

• To provide the service — transcribe your speech, run your conversations, generate Lucia's replies and coaching, create voice audio, and power Lucia’s memory of you.
• To enforce plan limits and keep your account secure.
• To improve the quality, reliability, and safety of the experience.
• To refine and advance the intelligence behind Lucia — how naturally she converses, remembers, and adapts — drawing on insights from how the service is used and, where appropriate, aggregated or de-identified data, always in accordance with applicable law and our ethical commitments.
• To contact you about your account (for example, email confirmation and important notices).

Your voice and your conversations

To make real-time conversation work, your voice audio, transcript, language settings, and relevant memories may be processed by Personalang and third-party AI providers. These providers currently include OpenAI for speech transcription and some transcript analysis, Google Gemini for Lucia's replies and coaching, and Cartesia for voice audio generation. Your transcripts and memories are stored in your account so Lucia can remember you, and they remain yours.

Before your first live voice session, Personalang asks you to agree to this live voice and third-party AI processing in the app. You can view more detail about the providers and what data each receives at personalang.com/aiproviders.

Session recordings. Audio recording is off by default. Only if you opt in — the “Save audio recordings” toggle in Settings, which you can switch off again anytime — do we record and store the audio of your conversations so you can replay them in your History. We may also use recordings, in de-identified form, to improve the quality of the service. Recordings are stored privately and are accessible only to you via short-lived, signed links. You can delete a recording, or stop saving new ones, whenever you like.

What Lucia remembers, and bringing it up. So your conversations feel continuous rather than starting from scratch each time, Lucia keeps track of things you share — including unresolved threads — and may gently bring up a topic from a past conversation when you return. This is on by default and you can turn it off any time in Settings (“Lucia can bring up things you’ve shared”); when it’s off, Lucia still remembers for your own review but won’t raise topics on her own. You can view and delete what Lucia remembers in the app at any time.

How we share information

We believe your personal information is yours, and we treat it that way. We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it, and we never share it for others’ advertising. We disclose information only in the limited circumstances described below, and only to the extent necessary.

Service providers. We work with carefully selected providers who perform services on our behalf — such as cloud hosting, database management, authentication, recording storage, and the AI processing that powers real-time conversation. These providers may process your information only on our instructions, only for the purposes we specify, and under contractual obligations of confidentiality and data protection. They are not permitted to use your information for advertising or their own unrelated purposes, and we require them to provide the same or equal protection for personal data as described in this policy.

Third-party AI providers. Personalang uses AI infrastructure providers to operate live voice sessions. Voice audio may be sent to OpenAI for transcription. Transcript text, language settings, relevant memories, and conversation context may be sent to Google Gemini to generate Lucia's replies and coaching. Lucia's reply text and language information may be sent to Cartesia to generate voice audio. OpenAI may also process transcript text for memory, follow-up, or relationship-quality analysis where those features are enabled. More detail is available at personalang.com/aiproviders.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; to enforce our terms; or to protect the rights, property, safety, and security of our users, the public, or Personalang.

Business transfers. If Personalang is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will continue to protect it and will notify you of any change in who controls it or how it is handled.

Where your data lives, and for how long

Our database and authentication are hosted within the European Union. We keep your account data and memories for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, access is disabled and your profile, conversations, memories, and authentication record are removed immediately. Recording deletion starts immediately and is kept in a durable retry queue, including a final purge after any previously issued upload link has expired; this normally completes within minutes even if the storage provider is temporarily unavailable. The one exception: to prevent abuse of our free trial, we keep a keyed one-way pseudonym of your email address (not the email itself) so the same address can’t repeatedly create accounts to obtain new free trials. The secret key is stored separately from the database, which is designed to prevent offline guessing if the tombstone table alone is exposed. We retain this minimal record on the basis of our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and abuse. We may also retain limited records, including transaction and billing records, where necessary to meet our legal, regulatory, tax, and security obligations.

Your rights and choices

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account yourself at any time in Settings → Danger zone; account access and database erasure are immediate and permanent, while recording storage cleanup is durably retried and normally completes within minutes. You can also email support@personalang.com for any privacy request and we’ll act on it promptly. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU) or KVKK (Türkiye).

Security

Your trust matters deeply to us, and protecting your information is a responsibility we take seriously. All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access to our systems is tightly restricted, and authentication is handled by a dedicated, specialized provider. We continuously review, strengthen, and invest in our security practices to stay ahead of evolving threats. While no method of electronic transmission or storage is ever completely secure, we are committed to safeguarding your information with care — and to improving our defenses every step of the way.

Children

Personalang is not directed to children under 17, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We’ll post the new version here and update the date above, and we’ll communicate significant changes where appropriate. By continuing to use Personalang, you accept this Privacy Policy and any updates to it.
